Mandatory Revocation Expanded

The Minister has set out a list of criminal offences that would result in mandatory revocation of an optometrist’s certificate of registration. If an optometrist is found guilty under the Criminal Code of Canada of any of the following offences, the College is required to revoke the optometrist’s certificate of registration:

  • sexual interference
  • invitation to sexual touching
  • sexual exploitation
  • sexual exploitation of a person with a disability
  • bestiality in the presence of or by a child
  • voyeurism
  • publication of an intimate image without consent
  • child pornography
  • parent or guardian procuring sexual activity
  • making sexually explicit material available to a child
  • luring a child
  • agreement or arrangement – sexual offence against a child
  • sexual assault; sexual assault with a weapon
  • aggravated sexual assault
