College signs Designated Drugs Regulation

On December 8, 2010 the College signed a regulation that will designate the drugs that optometrists are authorized to prescribe. This historical event concludes many years of effort by the profession and will serve to provide greater access to eye care for the public of Ontario.
The College congratulates everyone responsible for this landmark in the history of optometry in Ontario.
The regulation is now “sealed” and will require Cabinet approval before completion. This process can take several months. College members are reminded that they must wait until the regulation has received final approval before they can prescribe drugs.
