Call for Nominations: 2017 Council Elections

Nominations are now being accepted for the upcoming Council election. This election is required under Part 6 of the College by-laws. It will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016. The three-year term of the newly elected councillors will begin on January 17, 2017, at the first regular Council meeting following the election.

Elections will be held for the following districts:

District 1 – Greater Toronto Area District, which is composed of the municipality of Metropolitan Toronto and the regional municipalities of Halton, Hamilton-Wentworth, Niagara, Peel, and York. The current term of Dr. Areef Nurani will expire January 2017; he is eligible for re-election.

District 2 – Northern Electoral District, which is composed of the territorial districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, City of Greater Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Timiskaming, the counties of Bruce, Dufferin, Grey, Haliburton, Huron; Renfrew and Simcoe and the district municipality of Muskoka. The current term of Dr. Bill Chisholm will expire January 2017; he is eligible for re-election.

District 3- Eastern Electoral District, which is composed of the counties of Frontenac, Hastings, Lanark, Northumberland, Peterborough, Prince Edward, Kawartha Lakes, Leeds & Grenville, Lennox and Addington, Prescott and Russell United Counties, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and the Durham Region, and the City of Ottawa. Dr. Thomas-A. Noël will have completed nine (9) consecutive years on Council as of January 2017 and is not eligible for re-election, per Health Professions Procedural Code subsection 5(2).

District 5 – Provincial Electoral District, which is composed of the whole of the Province of Ontario. The current term of Dr. Patrick Quaid expires January 2017; he is eligible for re-election.
