Patient Relations and Sexual Abuse

In late 2014, Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, announced the creation of a Sexual Abuse Task Force that would review the sexual abuse provisions in Ontario’s Regulated Health Professions Act and recommend how they might best be strengthened.

As part of this initiative, the Minister contacted Ontario’s health regulatory colleges, asking that they provide him with information on the status and operations of their patient relations programs, which are responsible for preventing and dealing with sexual abuse of patients by health practitioners.

The College is always reviewing its processes to make its patient relations program even better, and was eager to work with the Task Force to improve everyone’s experience in the delivery of quality health care.
